Taliparamba (also known as Perimchellur ) is a city and a municipality in Kannur district in the Indian state of Kerala . It consists of 47 villages which are spread over an area of 1330.56 square kilometres ( 513.73 square miles ). It stretches from the coastal area of Ramanthali to Nuchiyard and Vayathur villages, touching the Karnataka border. Taliparamba is a small town of only 67 , 000 people crowded into a small area of 43 square kilometers. But the undulating hills that surround this little town make it exceptionally beautiful. The surrounding villages of Pattuvam, Kuttikkol and Karimbam are filled with lush green fields and little rolling hills. The rivers of Kuppam and Valapattanam surround the towns from all sides and the Arabian sea is only 14 kilometres to the western side. The hanging bridge at Kuttiyeri and the beautiful riverside temple at Parassinikkadavu attaract a large number of toruists. The Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kannur and the Pepper Research Station under Kerala Agricultural University at Panniyur, Kannur University, Pariyaram Medical College and Sir Syed College are a few famous institutions in and around Taliparamba. The origin of Taliparamba is from the Perinchalloor brahminical settlement. Of the original 2 ,000 Brahmin families, only 45 remain now. The old name of Taliparamba was ' Lakshmipura' as this place was considered as an abode of prosperity. The 'Sree Raja Rajeswara Temple' and the 'Trichambaram temple' are renowned places of worship. Today Muslims and Christians also form a sizeable portion of the population.

Geography

Taliparamba is located at 12.05°N 75.35ᅡ [ 1 ] . It has an average elevation of 56  metres (183  feet ). Administration Taliparamba is the largest Taluk in Kerala. Taliparamba is a municipality in Kerala called a Nagarasabha. It is divided into 41 wards. [1] This is also the headquarters of the 3 taluks in the district of Kannur, the other two being Kannur and Talasheri. There are 47 villages in the taluk. They spread from coast to the hills. 13 Village panchayats that form the particular block panchayat are the following. Alakode Chapparapadavu Chengalai Cherukunnu Kalliasseri Kannapuram Kurumathur Naduvil Narath Pappinisseri Pariyaram Pattuvam Udayagiri [2] It is also an Assembly constituency and traditionally the left wing parties had been winning from this seat. [3] . At present C. K. P. Padmanabhan is the MLA. Parts of this constituency belong to Kannur Parliamentary constituency. There is also a police station and court. Religious Centres Taliparamba is home to a number of Temples , Churches and Mosques . Sree Rajarajeshwara Temple One of the prominent Hindu temples in Taliparamba , and Also nearby Trichambaram Temple is situated about 1 km from Taliparamba town.

Thalora Muchilot kavu

Thalora a place near Thaliparamba enters into the tourism map of Kerala as a result of the proposed Perumkaliyattam at Sree Muchilot Kavu in 2008 December. In 2009 Muchilot Bagavathi Kavu Perumkaliyattam to be held at Thalora near Thaliparamba, Korom in Payyanur and Vengara near Payayangadi. describes how the Perumkaliyattams becomes a festival of the people irrespective of caste, class, creed or religion. The perumkaliyattam consistes of several customs and rituals like Varachuvekkal, kalnattu karmam, upadevadha theyyattams, vellattam and then the thirumudi uyaral of Muchilot Bagavathi. As prasadam feast is organised in a grand manner by giving food to more than a lakh devotees symbolising the marriage of Muchilottamma.

Krishi Vigyan Kendra

The Krishi Vigyan Kendra Kannur located in the premises of world famous Pepper Research Station at Panniyur is a front line agricultual extension institution, which exerts powerful influence on other extension systems of the district. Ever since it became functional in the year 2004 , it has made several innovative interventions in the agricultural development process of the district. The compact area group approach ( CAGA) against coconut mite, Paddy Task Force to combat labour shortage in rice farming, first ever Farmers' Science Congress , pioneering a new branch of agricultural extension called Creative Extension are only few of the numerous contributions made by the kendra within a short span of time. The subsurface dyke constructed at KVK as part of demonstrating rain water harvesting technologies has become a living example for an effective method for ground water conservation. The success story of the subsurface dyke has demonstrated that it is one of the most feasible methods for the conservation and exploitation of the ground water resources of the state. The dyke is now the largest rainwater harvesting system in the region.
Demographics As of 2001 India census [ 2 ] , Taliparamba had a population of 67 , 441. Males constitute 48 % of the population and females 52 %. Taliparamba has an average literacy rate of 82 %, higher than the national average of 59.5 %: male literacy is 85 %, and female literacy is 78 %. In Taliparamba, 12 % of the population is under 6 years of age.
